As I was doing some autumn cleaning, I happened to pull out some sketchbooks and thought, “I should upload some of my sketch book content to my blog.”
My sketch style differs from one project to another, depending on how clearly I can see (in my imagination) the subject I want to draw. Some are rough and quickly drawn, some are more detailed. Some are little more than thumbnail sketches. Some become a painting or a logo design, some do not. Sometimes I just sketch to get an idea from my head to a drawing so that by the time the drawing is done, I no longer feel a need to paint it. Sometimes I’m trying to work out the composition or some other aspect of the subject. So here are some of my sketches and, in some instances, the corresponding painting:
Cow in the Field
(Pencil on Velum)
Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream
Running Horses
(Pencil on Sketch Paper)
(Water Soluble Oils on Canvas)
Elizabeth
(Pencil on Velum)
This sketch I call Elizabeth is not really a sketch but is a more of refined drawing that I transferred to the illustration board for the final painting.

Knight

The Knight and the Dragon (Oil on Illustration Board)

Nebuchadnezzar’s Madness
(Pencil on Velum)
Nebuchadnezzar’s Madness
(Oil on Illustration Board)
Nebuchadnezzar is one of my favorite people described in the Old Testament. You can read about him in the book of Daniel. I've just recently removed the varnish from this painting as I want to rework it a little.

Jeff Lynne
(Acrylic on Illustration Board)
This painting of Jeff Lynne is a type of sketch. It was a speed painting (based on a photo) that I completed in about an hour as a practice exercise.
